Music

Music plays a vital role in the worship and liturgy at St. George’s. The power of music to connect heart and mind and to elevate the spirit cannot be denied. To encourage growth in faith, one must be continually challenged and involved in the pursuit thereof; likewise, a similar approach is taken with music. Therefore, it is the mission of the music program to provide quality choral and instrumental music of all centuries that inspires and stretches both the listener and the musician in worship . The traditional, classically based program provides three choirs for volunteers of all ages and abilities, the Praise Band is open to those interested in contemporary music programs.

The Coventry Choir
A choir of committed adults, the Coventry Choir consists of approximately 25 voices, including paid section leaders. Rehearsing weekly and singing for the 10:30 am service, the Coventry Choir also sings for festival services and offers a wide variety of other special events, including Choral Evensong. Although there is no audition to join this group, the ability to read music is strongly encouraged and helpful.

This choir performs once or twice per month in worship services, and joins with the Coventry Choir occasionally. Using principles of the Royal School of Church Music (RSCM), basic music theory is taught, and the choristers are strongly encouraged during these years to become strong and effective worship leaders. This choir performs once per month in worship services, and joins the Canterbury Choir for special occasions, such as the Christmas Pageant.
